75% of women living in rural India work in agriculture sector and do work that does not produce direct income creating a financial gap and gender inequity. At the same time almost 40% of post-harvest produce goes to waste due to various inefficiencies in supply chain journey of farm to table. We have partnered with Science for Society Technologies (S4S Technologies) to provide their UN award winning solar dehydrator to women from low income families in rural India. The machine needs no electricity and no maintenance. We work with S4S Tech to provide the machines and the women dehydrate excess vegetables that do not sell. S4S works as aggregator to supply the ingredients to businesses. This model ensures the women make direct income.
Success Story
The success of these women have a larger social and environmental impact. It not only reduces the post harvest losses and prevents food wastage but also puts money directly into the hands of the women; giving them confidence to lead life to their fullest potential. They often find newer identities as environment champions and decision makers in farms, families and communities.
